About Us
The TELCOM headquarters today is based in Alcobendas, Madrid.
TELCOM has a network of strategic partners/ distributors including major accounts in Spain, Portugal and France. As part of our sales and marketing commitment to these accounts, we deliver engineering support, system solutions development and after sales care.
Telcom was founded on 16 November 1971 by two brothers, José and Julio Herrero with the aim of manufacturing and marketing professional radiocommunications equipment. The company was later acquired by the brothers Eduardo and Salvador Martínez Cabrera, the owners of the Payma group.
Being part of the PAYMA group enabled TELCOM to boost and expand its technical and commercial activities.
The first few years were dedicated to the development of radiocommunications products using discrete analogue technology (valves, transistors etc.).
A major milestone for the company was the development and launching of the first SYNTHESISED mobile radio to be manufactured in Spain, achieving a first in this sector.
In 1993, in the face of increasing competition from foreign telecommunications multinationals, Telcom began looking for leading global brands it could market in Spain. A decision was reached which led to an agreement being entered into with Motorola. As a consequence, Telcom became the distributor of Motorola radiocommunications products in Spain.
In the late 1990s, it was decided to expand and diversify the range of products Telcom could offer to its local and international channel.
Agreements were concluded with companies such as Alvarion and Cambium for point-to-point and point-multipoint broadband solutions and Owasys for M2M devices.
In addition to the existing product portfolio, TELCOM began distributing Motorola’s wi-fi systems, PMR 446 licence-free radio kits, cordless home telephones (DECT), baby monitors and remote access cameras, all manufactured by Motorola.
The above product portfolio was eventually divided into three business divisions: Radio communications, Broadband and Consumer Electronics.
In line with our expansion strategy, Telcom acquired a majority stake in the Barcelona-based company WIFIDOM, specialists in the Wimax and Wi-fi wireless broadband solutions market. Telcom’s broadband division business was transferred to Wifidom in 2015.
In 2017, the consolidation of the Telcom Group was completed with the transfer of the consumer division´s business to our sister company TELCOMDIS TECNOLOGÍA, founded in 2013 to reinforce our consumer electronics business.
Since 2018, TELCOM S.A.U. has focused purely on the sales and marketing of professional radio communications products and systems supplied by MOTOROLA SOLUTIONS.
Our other brands we stock and supply, completes the portfolio we offer to our channel partners and major accounts. This enables Telcom to deliver a complete solution as often requested from a demanding customer base.
